The Respiratory Therapist will provide respiratory therapy services and life support to patients with cardiopulmonary deficiencies, administering high-risk therapies and performing advanced functions across various critical settings. Responsibilities also include monitoring patient responses, maintaining records, evaluating medical orders, and assisting in emergency code situations.
Candidates must be graduates of a CoARC-approved Respiratory program or possess equivalent experience/NBRC Certification, along with two years of respiratory care experience, including one year in critical care. Required licensure includes CPR certification, Pennsylvania RCP license, and NBRC RRT credential, depending on location.
Administer high-risk therapies (e.g., Nitric Oxide, Tracheal Gas Insufflation). Perform advanced functions in various settings (OR, ED, Cath Lab, etc.). Conduct procedures like bronchoscopy, ABG lab troubleshooting, pulmonary function tests, EEG, EKG, stress testing, and 24-hour monitoring. Monitor patient responses to therapy and assist with breathing exercises. Maintain patient charts and order equipment repairs. Demonstrate procedures to trainees and supervise students. Assist in transporting ventilated patients and respond to code situations. Evaluate medical orders and interpret clinical data to optimize patient care. Set up and operate respiratory therapy equipment, ensuring safe and efficient function. Act as Lead Respiratory Therapist when needed, providing problem-solving, training, and technique demonstration.
RCP license and RRT from NBRC.
Respiratory Therapist license. Maintain NBRC certification if credentialed after July 1, 2002.
Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Osteopathic Respiratory Care or Respiratory Care Practitioners (RCP). Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
