The specialist is responsible for scheduling surgical and medical procedures and diagnostic testing in both inpatient and outpatient settings, which includes coordinating with personnel, obtaining pre-authorizations, and communicating post-operative instructions to patients. Duties also involve gathering necessary clinical and insurance information and performing general administrative tasks like registration and answering phones.
A High School diploma or equivalent is required, along with an Associate’s Degree or completion of a Medical Office Professional program; however, two years of relevant experience in a medical setting can substitute for the degree. Essential skills include excellent interpersonal abilities, knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-10/CPT coding, EHR systems, and insurance guidelines.
1. High School diploma or equivalent required. 2. Associate’s Degree or completion of a Medical Office Professional program required.
1. Two years of experience in a medical practice or clinical setting may be accepted in place of the required Associate's degree or completion of a Medical Office Program. (Experience in a medical practice or clinical setting must be 24 out of the past 36 months)
Receives general supervision from the Practice Manager.
