The Pathology Assistant is tasked with the accurate and timely processing of various laboratory specimens. This includes performing comprehensive macroscopic examination and evaluation of all surgical pathological specimens.
Candidates must have completed a NAACLS Pathologists’ Assistant program and be certified by the ASCP BOC as a Pathologists’ Assistant. A Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited Pathologist Assistant Program or a Masters of Health Science is required.
We are currently staffed with 1 experienced PA and have 1 newly approved full-time PA position to proactively prepare for continued growth! In 2024 and 2025, the surgical case volume was 10,244 and 12,394, respectively. Available shift: 10:00AM-6:30PM, Monday-Friday Work at a single location – CarolinaEast Health System in New Bern, North Carolina. New Bern is a lovely community with a thriving downtown and close to the beach. Perform gross description and dissections to include all surgical specimen complexity. No autopsies, PA students, or residents. Weekday frozen section service coverage (average 2-3 per week) On-call frozen section service and organ procurement coverage during off-hours (6:30PM-7AM weekdays and weekends). Coverage is rotated amongst both PAs. Collaborate with pathologists, surgeons, and anatomic pathology laboratory personnel. Gross Room equipment/software: Epic Beaker, Dragon DMO, Stryker Bone Saw, PathStation camera (gross photography), Mikroscan slide scanner, and 2 Mopec grossing stations.
