The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), primarily working in triage while also filling in other clinic areas as needed. Responsibilities include collecting patient data for RN assessment, managing precertifications for hospital admissions to ensure medical necessity, and evaluating patient status for appropriate reimbursement.
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, along with a current LPN license in North Carolina and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Required attributes include strong critical thinking, decisive judgment, the ability to work with minimal supervision, and the capacity to handle stressful environments.
Establishes and maintains efficient methods of ensuring the medical necessity and appropriateness of all hospital admissions while obtaining precertifications.
Performs admission and concurrent precerts for patients to ensure that the claim has an authorization number to prevent denials.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with payors, staff, etc.
Reviews charts for clinical information to obtain precertification.
Maintains proper telephone etiquette to referral sources.
Manage patients along with RN case manger supervision.
Evaluate patient status is correct per medical necessity for appropriate reimbursement.
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
