The Central Monitor Technician continuously monitors cardiac rhythms, recognizes, identifies, analyzes, and documents arrhythmias, and promptly reports pertinent findings to the clinical nurse. This role also involves providing real-time video monitoring for assigned patients to ensure safety and responding promptly to all alarms.
Candidates must have a high school diploma and demonstrate computer and keyboarding skills, though previous hospital experience is preferred. Successful completion of an advanced dysrhythmia course and organizational EKG test is required upon hire/orientation.
Continuously monitors cardiac rhythm and recognizes, identifies, analyzes, and documents arrhythmias, abnormal cardiac rhythms, rhythm changes, and promptly reports pertinent findings or changes to the clinical nurse. Documents per the Remote Telemetry and Redundant Cardiac Monitoring Policy and related documents. Provides real-time video monitoring of assigned patients meeting criteria to ensure patient safety and documents per Virtual Patient Safety Surveillance Policy. Responds to all alarms and initiates communication promptly. Understands clinical area chain of command for escalation as needed. Communicates clearly and compassionately with patients while performing virtual patient safety surveillance. Notifies responsible direct care clinicians and supervisor immediately in the event of a failure of monitoring equipment. Performs other duties as required or assigned.
High school graduate required. Must demonstrate keyboarding skills and be familiar with computer use. Previous hospital experience preferred. Completion of advanced dysrhythmia course upon hire and successful passing grade on organizational EKG test upon completion of orientation and annually. Effective Communication skills Successful completion of competency-based orientation program Ability to multitask with multiple competing priorities.
