The Staff Psychiatrist is responsible for providing comprehensive psychiatric care, leading multidisciplinary treatment teams, conducting various assessments, and developing individualized treatment plans for assigned patients. This role also involves maintaining accurate medical documentation, consulting with various healthcare providers and families, and providing clinical oversight to staff.
Candidates must possess an unrestricted license to practice medicine in Virginia or obtain one before employment, along with a medical degree and completion of an ACGME-approved psychiatry residency or fellowship. A current DEA controlled substance registration or the ability to obtain one prior to starting is also mandatory.

The Staff Psychiatrist provides comprehensive psychiatric care to assigned patients and serves as a multidisciplinary treatment team leader. Responsibilities include conducting psychiatric, neurological, and physical assessments; reviewing diagnostic results; and developing and managing individualized treatment plans. The psychiatrist collaborates with physicians, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and other clinical staff, participates in treatment team meetings, and consults with internal and external healthcare providers as well as patients’ families or legally authorized representatives regarding patient care.
The position maintains accurate and timely medical documentation in accordance with established standards and provides clinical oversight and consultation to interdisciplinary staff and mid-level providers. The Staff Psychiatrist may serve as backup physician coverage when needed and participates in medical staff meetings, committees, and other clinical activities that support patient care and program operations. The role also includes contributing to staff education and maintaining professional competency through ongoing continuing medical education.
