The Nuclear Medicine Technologist explains procedures to patients, prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals, and performs diagnostic studies as prescribed by a physician. They also measure radioactivity, follow safety protocols, and maintain equipment quality control.
Candidates must be graduates of an accredited Radiology Technology program and registered with ARRT or NMTCB. BLS/CPR certification is required, and PET experience is preferred but not mandatory.
Explains procedure to patients to assure cooperation and optimum test results Prepares stock solutions of radiopharmaceutical materials, calculate doses, and administers doses, under direction of Physician Performs diagnostic studies on patients as prescribed by Physician, using scanner or scintillation cameras to detect radiation emitted and to produce image of organ on photographic film Measures radioactivity using Geiger counters, scalers and scintillation detectors Follows radiation safety techniques in use and disposal of radioactive materials Maintains quality control of all equipment Safeguard the privacy of patient health information Attends required meetings Performs related work as required
