One California Job Summary and Responsibilities As our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Registered Nurse (RN), you will help critically ill and premature newborns receive specialized, compassionate care so they can achieve the best possible health outcomes and have the strongest start in life.
Every day you will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, focusing on the needs of perinatal patients and their families.
You will be expected to utilize your clinical and technical skills, document accurately, collaborate with the healthcare team, and provide leadership in patient care while maintaining a safe environment and upholding patient safety standards.
To be successful in this role, you must possess strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills, excellent communication and teamwork abilities, a commitment to family-centered care, emotional resilience, attention to detail, and the ability to make sound decisions in high-pressure situations while advocating for the needs of vulnerable patients and their families.
Assessment
Performs total body and system assessment each shift/visit according to unit standards.
Care of
Patient: Including planning, implementing, evaluating and educating.

Skills: Utilizes technology, procedures, protocols, standards and interventions specific to assigned unit.
Documentation
Performs legible, timely, concise and accurate documentation according to policies and procedures. Proficient and competent with the computerized documentation system.

Precepting/Mentoring: Participates in orientation of new staff, ancillary personnel and mentors students in a constructive and positive manner.
