The Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing process to promote and restore patient health status by collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members, providing physical and psychological support to patients and families, and supervising assigned team members. This involves using critical thinking to guide data gathering, assessment, judgment, intervention, and evaluation of human responses to actual and potential health problems through teaching and direct care.
Minimum education required is an ADN, Diploma, or Bachelor of Science in Nursing, though online-only RN education is not accepted, and new graduates without post-graduation experience are generally excluded from certain units unless they complete the Nurse Residency Program. A current RN license to practice in South Carolina is mandatory, along with adherence to all specialty-specific certification requirements.

Uses a systematic critical-thinking approach to guide data gathering, assessment, nursing judgement, intervention and evaluation of human responses to actual and potential health problems through activities such as health teaching and the provision of care, supportive and restorative care and/or support of a peaceful death. All responsibilities are carried out in accordance with the mission, vision, strategic imperatives and standards of the Lexington County Health District, American Nurses Association Standards and in accordance with the provisions/statues set forth by the South Carolina Nurse Practice Act.
