The Dental Hygienist provides comprehensive dental hygiene services, including patient assessments, oral cancer screenings, and therapeutic periodontal procedures. They also maintain a safe, sterile environment and assist the dental team in ensuring high-quality patient care.
Candidates must hold an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene and possess a current Arizona State RDH license. Additionally, an Anesthesia certification, BLS certification, and a Fingerprint Clearance Card are required.
Ensures quality of care by preparing treatment area for patient; cleans, sterilizes and sets up treatment area. Assesses patient health by interviewing patient, performing visual examinations, obtaining, updating and studying medical and dental health histories. Determines abnormal conditions; performs oral cancer screenings. Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records. Performs therapeutic procedures by ordering and/or administering injections and performing corrective, preventive and/or periodontal procedures as authorized by the Board of Dentistry. Instructs and counsels patients by describing therapeutic regimens, giving normal growth and development information, providing counseling on problems of daily care, and promoting wellness and health maintenance. Provides continuity of care by developing and implementing patient management plans. Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies and protocols. Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations. Complies with federal, state and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements and advising management on needed actions. Aids in monitoring, orienting and assisting dental residents and dental assistants. Develops dental care team staff by providing information, educational opportunities and experiential growth opportunities. Aids Dental Director by supervising staff, contributing information regarding staff performance and discussing staff requirements. Serves on committees aimed at compliance, quality assurance and management, and performs peer review as requested. Maintains clinic standards of care by adhering to the Arizona State Board of Dentistry and those of other governing agencies. Performs any duties of a dental assistant if the need arises; including proper sterilization, assisting dentists with procedures, sealants and any other dental assistant task. Adheres to expectations of required/mandatory in-services, certifications and licensure. Complies with all Marana Health policies and procedures, including prompt reporting of Risk/Non-Risk incidents. Must maintain an active affiliated practice agreement with Marana Health to provide services at other sites as authorized by the Dental Director. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies. Participates in in-service/education regarding Quality Improvement. Performs other related duties as assigned.
