The practitioner will perform physical examinations, establish diagnoses, and formulate treatment plans for pediatric patients. They will also educate families, manage patient referrals, and coordinate care with the supervising physician and other health professionals.
Candidates must have graduated from an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program and hold a valid Colorado license. The role requires residency in Colorado and the ability to work in the Thornton clinic with occasional Saturday shifts.
Obtains patients’ health history from interviews with patients and others, and from review of pertinent health records. Interprets health information and establishes diagnoses consistent with the accumulated data. Performs physical examinations. Presents patient history and physical examination information clearly and concisely to the supervising physician when appropriate. Formulates and reviews treatment and therapy plans as needed. Recognizes situations which require immediate attention of a physician and initiates life-saving procedures when necessary. Orders and administers appropriate medications and documents in the patient record accordingly. Orders therapy services, radiology examinations, and nursing services when necessary. Consults with colleagues, supervising physician(s), specialists, and other health professionals as appropriate. Educates and informs patients and parents about illnesses, health promotion, disease prevention, and the progress of evaluation and treatment. Initiates and facilitates patient referrals to other physicians, clinics, and health care facilities. Initiates arrangements for hospital admission and completes appropriate communication to the inpatient team. Maintains records and prepares reports and correspondence related to the work. Reviews and processes incoming hospital, pharmacy, lab, and sub-specialist correspondence; returns phone calls in a timely manner.
