The Dosing Nurse is responsible for dispensing liquid methadone and conducting patient assessments, vitals, and admissions in an opioid treatment program. They also lead a multi-disciplinary team to provide quality care while maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations.
Candidates must be graduates of an accredited nursing school and hold a current license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Required certifications include TB screening, CPR, and specific training in de-escalation, confidentiality, and substance use disorders.
Dosing Nurse Requirements: · TB Screening
· CPR Certification
· Certification in the HPHAO approved de-escalation program
· Confidentiality training (42 CFR, Part2 and 45 CFR parts 160 & 164 HIPAA)
· Therapeutic Boundaries Training
· Ability to care for diverse populations
· Incident Report Training
· All Hazards Training
· Infection Control Training
· Substance Use Disorder Training (including Nicotine Addiction)
· Ability to lift 50 lbs.
· Computer Skills
· Ability to solve problems in a timely and therapeutic manner
· Knowledge of Substance Use Disorders, Dually Diagnosed (Substance/Mental Health Disorders) and Medical Co-morbidities
· Compliance with Federal Regulations regarding 42 CFR Part 2; Confidentiality of Substance Use Disorder and HIPAA Regulations;
· Adherence to Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals for Behavioral Health;
· Adherence to DEA regulations and guidelines pertaining to controlled substances, including count, administration and documentation standards;
· Utilize critical thinking skills and apply best nursing practices in accordance with policy when making decisions and problem solving to provide for best patient care and outcome;
· Be familiar with best practice standards in line with MA Dept of Mental Health regulations;
· Delegates to and oversees the work of Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (MHW) as appropriate;
· Provide a comprehensive, concise shift report for all incoming nursing and Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (MHW) staff;
· Complete Admission and Discharge Assessments (RN) and procedures;
· Monitor and treat patients who have co-occurring medical / psychiatric illness;
· Assess physiological and behavioral health status of the patient each shift;
· Documents patient information according to established protocols as well as any psychiatric /medical conditions as per DPH and DMH Regulations indicate;
· Assist the patient in understanding the disease process through education and therapeutic relationship;
· Maintain therapeutic boundaries by setting limits and enforcing rules in a respectful manner;
· Maintain patient safety by adhering to ordered safety checks and participating in patient restraints and seclusions as necessary
· Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team;
· Triage patient issues for the Attending Practitioner;
· Perform shift specific duties to ensure the unit is cleaned and properly stocked with necessary medical supplies;
· Order medications as needed through the identified program pharmacy;
· Responsible for HPAO continued education in the field of substance use disorders and behavioral health conditions;
· Attends Supervision with assigned supervisor twice monthly and/or as needed based on status or concerns;
· Attend mandatory meetings and trainings;
· Perform unit duties as directed by specific ABTU performance specifications;
· Perform any other duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager, Charge Nurse, Program Director, and/or Director of Nursing.
· Graduate of an accredited professional school of Nursing.
· Must be currently licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and maintain current licensure.
· Certified Addiction Registered Nurse certification or Psychiatric Nurse Certification eligible preferred.
