Provide specialized nursing care for critical patients requiring technical procedures such as cardiac catheterization and invasive neurological monitoring. Responsibilities include utilizing the nursing process to assess, diagnose, and implement individualized care plans while mentoring colleagues.
Requires a graduate degree from an accredited Nursing Program and a valid RN license with NH eligibility. BLS is required at hire, with ACLS and PALS certifications required within 180 days.
Overview This PRN Role supports Dartmouth Cancer Center locations in Lebanon, NH and St Johnsbury, VT. Treats patients with the various modalities available in Radiation Oncology. Counsels, schedules and maintains detailed records on patient treatment.
Treats patients with the various treatment modalities. Utilizes all treatment set-ups and all treatment machines, understanding the current protocols. Observes and questions patients about their response to treatment. Screens, counsels or directs physical and emotional problems to Radiation Oncologist and/or nurse. Directs patients to nurse for weekly evaluation. Prepares daily schedule for assigned treatment machines; checks for accuracy of new patient data; verifies that all accessories are prepared and accounted for. Presents field verification films to MD to verify set-up. Adjusts fields as the Radiation Oncologist directs. Documents and follows through on changes and re-film. Maintains patient treatment records; prepares dose calculations, being cognizant of dose limits. Submits billing for daily patient treatments, reviews for accuracy daily. Participates in ongoing Quality Assurance by reviewing charts and films of patients on treatment on a regular basis. Schedules research time and teach set-up for various treatment machines to DMS students. Maintains and supplies assigned treatment rooms. Performs a variety of functions to oversee the technical training of radiation therapy students for affiliate sites. Acts as a technical resource for students. Performs other duties as required or assigned, including, travel to other clinic locations based on coverage needs.
