The Patient Care Assistant provides direct care to patients, including assisting with activities of daily living and monitoring vital signs. Additionally, the role involves performing clerical tasks and maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment under the direction of a licensed nurse.
Candidates must possess a high school diploma and a current CNA license in Rhode Island. Preferred qualifications include certifications in phlebotomy, EKG, and BLS, along with at least six months of experience in an acute care or clinical setting.
The Patient Care Assistant assists, supports, and provides direct care to patients under the direction of the licensed nurse. Assists with activities of daily living, including but not limited to, bathing, feeding and ambulation. Obtains vital signs, EKG, phlebotomy and blood glucose. Documents and reports results to licensed nurse. Provides a safe and therapeutic environment. Performs clerical functions including initiating, directing and receiving telephone calls, preparing, printing and scanning various patient reports and medical record information to internal and external departments and facilities.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING 1. High School Diploma or equivalent.2. Current Phlebotomy certification upon hire, preferred.3. Current EKG certification upon hire, preferred.4. Current BLS (AHA) certificate within 30 days of hire and maintain current.5. Possesses knowledge of Medical Terminology.6. Minimum six months previous experience in an acute care hospital or physician’s office preferred.7. Current CNA license in state of Rhode Island. Facility Specific Requirements (facility may require items listed below): 1. Current Behavioral Violence Prevention (BVP) certificate within 6 months of hire and maintain current per facility requirement.
