The Medical Assistant will support physicians by performing patient assessments, administering medications, and assisting with minor surgical procedures. They are also responsible for maintaining clinic flow, managing medical supplies, and coordinating information between the clinic and other healthcare entities.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and obtain MA certification within 90 days of employment. BLS certification is required, and one year of clinical experience in a physician's office setting is preferred.
Assists physician by performing and documenting initial assessment of patients; administering medications and injections as directed under supervision of physician; and by performing other venipuncture and lab procedures as required.
· Performs initial assessment of patients to include obtaining and documenting weight, temperature, pulse and other vital signs. Conducts thorough medication reconciliation to ensure accuracy.
· Obtains and documents brief nature of current complaint and symptoms.
· Maintains smooth patient flow by preparing clinic rooms in advance and keeps both physician and patient informed of pertinent information regarding visit.
· Administers injections and medications as ordered and supervised by the physician.
· Assists the physician with minor surgical procedures and specific examinations as needed. · Performs laboratory procedures as directed by the physician and documents results in patient chart.
· Conducts telephone follow-up with patients, HMO agencies, home health services, insurance companies, hospitals, pharmacies and other physicians for collection and transfer of information.
· Assists office management and front office personnel in other duties to ensure a smooth patient/work flow.
· Assists hospital staff with patient admits and outpatient services by providing clinical information from patient charts and coordinating the transfer of information between the hospital and the physician.
· Maintains an adequate inventory of medical supplies and pharmaceuticals.
Education and Experience: · High school diploma or equivalent required
· 1 year of clinical experience in a physician’s off setting preferred
· MA Certification required within 90 days of employment
· BLS required
