The phlebotomist is responsible for performing venipuncture and collecting specimens for laboratory analysis. They also manage the laboratory area and handle patient registration using laboratory software.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and be a graduate of a phlebotomy training program. A minimum of 2 years of laboratory experience is required, with oncology experience preferred.
SCOPE: Collect specimens for laboratory analysis, and prepare for processing by the laboratory. Greet and receive all patients in a professional, warm, and efficient manner. Utilizing the laboratory software; register patients into the system for proper specimen processing. Make sure to maximize in-house lab processing. FUNCTIONS: 1. Perform venipuncture on patients in both a timely and professional manner. 2. Verify lab orders are available and patients are registered. 3. Process specimens for internal and external processing. 4. Management of Lab area QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent required Graduate of a phlebotomy training program Phlebotomy Certification highly preferred 2 years’ experience in a lab required; oncology experience preferred.
