The surgical technologist functions as the scrub technician in the operating room, assisting with the preparation and maintenance of the surgical environment. They follow aseptic techniques, support the surgical team, and ensure patient safety throughout procedures.
Candidates must have a high school diploma and preferably complete a Surgical Technologist Course from an accredited program. One year of experience as a surgical technologist is preferred, along with certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job: Education and Formal Training: High school graduate or equivalent required Completion of Surgical Technologist Course from an Accredited CAHEA Program preferred Work Experience: 1 year experience as a surgical technologist preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Works with complex monitoring and life- saving equipment. Reads, writes, and speaks English. Knowledge of Standard Precautions. Position involves skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material. Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific physiological/psychosocial/ developmental/ spiritual needs of patients typically served. Demonstrates self-directed learning and achievement of assigned clinical area objectives.
