The Respiratory Therapist provides assessment, treatment, and diagnostic evaluation for patients with cardio-pulmonary abnormalities, primarily in critical care areas. Responsibilities include managing respiratory care modalities, conducting therapeutic procedures, and orienting new staff.
Candidates must be graduates of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program and hold a current Connecticut State license. Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP.
37.5 hours a week. 12.5-hour shifts (7am-7:30pm &7:30pm-7am). Rotating day and overnight shifts. Option to work nights only. The RT will evaluate patients receiving Respiratory Therapy daily to determine effectiveness and appropriateness and verifies patients are receiving prescribed therapy. The RT can make appropriate clinical decisions based on physical assessment and chart review. The RT performs patient education and training to ensure effective self-therapy after discharge and promotes preventive measures. The RT accesses clinical data, accurately documents in the patient medical record using the computerized information systems available at the hospital. The RT demonstrates proficiency in the use of all equipment used by the department, including its operation, maintenance, trouble shooting, and processing. The RT reviews, explains, and demonstrates policies and procedures to new employees. Assist in the orientation process of new employees by teaching and or observing that they can perform the skills necessary to complete the task competently. When the skill is demonstrated to the standard required, the precepting therapist will document in the new therapist’s CBO booklet. The RT maintains clinical expertise by attending continuing education classes, respiratory seminars, meetings, and self-improvement programs as appropriate and required. The Therapist supplies proof of yearly CEUs to the Respiratory Clinical Leader or Manager.
Must have graduated from an accredited program in Respiratory Therapy and hold a current Connecticut State license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (CRT or RRT) Must maintain the following certifications: Basic Life Support - required upon hire Advanced Cardiac Life Support Pediatric Advanced Life Support according to the American Heart Association. Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification from the American Academy of Pediatrics. certifications sponsored by Stamford Health
