Position Summary
Physicians diagnose and treat injuries and illnesses. Physicians examine patients; take medical histories; prescribe medications; and order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests. Physicians counsel patients on diet, hygiene, and preventative healthcare.
- Essential Functions
- Takes a patient's medical history.
- Updates charts and patient information to show current findings and treatments.
- Orders tests for nurses or other healthcare staff to perform.
- Reviews test results to identify any abnormal findings.
- Recommends and design a plan of treatment.
- Addresses concerns or answer questions that patients have about their health and well-being.
- Helps patients take care of their health by discussing topics such as proper nutrition and hygiene.
- Works with the primary healthcare team to provide patients with primary medical care within the standard of care for internal medicine patients.
- Orders laboratory and radiology tests and refer patients to specialists when appropriate and called for.
- Analyzes reports, test results, medical records, and examinations to diagnose condition of patients and propose treatment options.
- Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens to treat identified and documented medical conditions.
- Discusses potential side effects of medication/treatment with patients and ensure that all allergy information is up-to-date before prescribing medication.
- Adheres to departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, ongoing quality improvement objectives and safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and comply with all federal and state health information privacy laws.
- Records complete, timely, and legible medical records.
- Must be able to deal with stress while maintaining composure.
- Follows and adheres to TRMC vaccine policy(s) mandated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
- Work Experience
- Two to eight years of experience in an internship and/or residency programs preferred.
- Education
- State License with the Texas Medical Board required.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) within 30 days of hire date.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) required within 90 days of hire date.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) preferred.
