The Peer Specialist uses lived experience to serve as a role model and provide coping strategies and wellness management to individuals in recovery. They facilitate community integration by helping participants overcome barriers to housing and healthcare through advocacy and direct support.
A minimum of a high school diploma is required, with a preference for New York State Certified Peer Specialists. Candidates should have experience in advocacy for individuals facing mental illness or homelessness.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent or higher. New York State Certified Peer Specialist preferred Experience in providing advocacy services to people who are mentally ill and/or homeless. Past or current participant of behavioral health, substance services or homeless services preferred. · Must have excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills Must be reliable and able to work independently and understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS · Strong organizational skills and timely follow-up to manage complex tasks. Self-motivated while also being a team player. · Proficient in MS Word/Excel · Bilingual in any language a plus not required.
