Position Summary
The Ultrasound Technician is responsible for performing diagnostic obstetric ultrasound examinations to support high quality prenatal care. This role works directly with pregnant patients and collaborates closely with licensed providers to ensure accurate imaging, patient safety and timely clinical documentation. Level I obstetric ultrasound competency is required; Level II is preferred.
Perform prenatal and obstetric ultrasound examinations in accordance with provider orders, protocols and certification level.
Conduct dating, viability, growth and limited anatomical ultrasound exams.
Obtain accurate fetal measurements and diagnostic images suitable for provider interpretation.
Identify unusual or abnormal findings and promptly communicate concerns to the supervising provider.
Prepare preliminary technical findings within scope of practice and organization policy.

Patient Care & Experience
Explain ultrasound procedures to patients using clear, compassionate and culturally responsive communication.
Ensure patient comfort, dignity and privacy throughout the exam.
Provide trauma-informed care to prenatal patients and support teams.
Documentation & Compliance
Accurately document all ultrasound exams in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Adhere to ALARA principles and ultrasound safety standards.
Maintain compliance with HIPAA, infection control practices and organization policies.
Participate in quality assurance, image review, training and audit activities as assigned. Equipment & Work Environment
Operate, clean and maintain ultrasound equipment according to manufacturer and organization guidelines.
Report equipment malfunctions or supply needs promptly.
Maintain and organized, safe and patient ready ultrasound suite
Requirements
Education & Experience
Graduate of an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program
Level I Obstetric Ultrasound Competency Required
ARDMS OB/GYN certification or registry eligible
Current BLS (CPR) Certification
Experience performing routine prenatal ultrasounds independently under provider protocols. Preferred
Level II Obstetric Ultrasound Competency or ARDM OB/GYN registered
Experience performing detailed fetal anatomy scans within scope
Prior experience in OB/GYN, maternal- fetal medicine
Prior experience in community health settings
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of prenatal anatomy, fetal development and gestational assessment.
Strong patient centered communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary care team.
Proficiency with electronic medical records and imaging documentation
High attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety
Working knowledge of basic computer applications required for documentation and communication
Physical Demands Ability to stand, walk and perform repetitive scanning motions for extended periods. Ability to assist patients with positioning. Occasional lifting or moving of equipment up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
