Responsibilities
Provide direct nursing care for neuro ICU and IMCU patients, performing frequent neuro assessments, monitoring changes in consciousness, pupil reactivity, and motor function, and escalating concerns per protocol.
Administer medications and therapies per physician orders, including vasoactive infusions, sedatives, analgesics, anti-seizure medications, and other neuro-focused treatments; monitor for adverse effects.
Manage invasive lines and monitoring devices (arterial lines, central lines, telemetry) and collaborate with the care team to interpret hemodynamic data and adjust care plans.
Maintain patient safety through careful oversight of ventilator support, airway management where applicable, seizure precautions, fall prevention, and infection control practices.
Document nursing assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the electronic medical record; communicate frequently with physicians, case managers, and families to coordinate care.
Float between ICU and step-down units as needed; communicate patient status and care priorities during unit transitions; ensure continuity of care during shifts and handoffs.
Requirements
Active RN license in good standing with Nursys license verification; eligibility to practice in the assignment state.
Minimum 2 years of experience in neuro ICU, IMCU, or a closely related ICU setting.
