The Ultrasonographer performs ultrasound examinations and operates ultrasound equipment for diagnostic purposes. They prepare patients, ensure quality control of scans, and assist physicians with complex procedures.
Candidates must be graduates of an accredited ultrasound program with at least one year of experience or 500 clinical hours of training. Preferred candidates will have five or more years of experience in various ultrasound examinations.
The Ultrasonographer provides patient care and technical skills in the operation of ultrasound equipment for diagnostic and evaluation purposes. Perform ultrasound examinations which include operation of real-time and portable equipment as well as multiple imaging modalities.

Prepares patient for ultrasound procedures by accurately assessing patient’s needs and providing patient education. Explain procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation.
Make exposures necessary for the requested procedures. Constantly evaluate accuracy and quality of scan results, rejecting and repeating work that does not meet established standards.
Position patient on examining table and set up and adjust equipment to obtain optimum view of specific body area as requested by physician.
Select and record preliminary study results; make pertinent measurements and label. Direct to Radiologist for interpretation.
Monitor equipment operation and recognize malfunctions and need for servicing. Ensure quality control procedures are maintained.
Operate equipment in operating room or at patient's bedside as requested.
Display broad knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy, pathology and/or physiological data to obtain optimal studies. Constantly evaluate accuracy and quality of scan results.
Provide assistance to physicians or other technologists in the performance of more complex procedures.
Assure that supplies, materials, and other required equipment are present and in working order, requisitioning materials as necessary.
Operates equipment for image production and documentation of images, and performs quality control measures for the purpose of ensuring optimal quality images.
Prepares patients films for interpretation by radiologist.
Assists with scheduling and registration of patients as needed.
Practices accurate and timely completion of scheduled and unscheduled work to maximize productivity.
Education/Experience Graduate of an accredited ultrasound program. One (1) year experience or graduate of training program with minimum of 500 clinical hours of training.
Preferred Education/Experience Five (5) or more years Ultrasound experience in performing abdomen, small parts, OB/gyn and vascular exams.
Credentials Current Healthcare BLS certification. ARDMS, credentialed in AB or OB/GYN, and RVT
