The specialist is responsible for the daily operations of the Patient Service Center, including opening/closing, patient registration, ordering tests, and managing specimen collection, handling, processing, and transportation according to established procedures. Key duties involve performing proper specimen collection for various ages, completing specimen processing like centrifuging and aliquoting, and accurately entering patient and test order data into hospital and laboratory systems.
A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with a minimum of six months of phlebotomy experience. Preferred qualifications include certification as a phlebotomy technician or previous training from an approved phlebotomy course and prior experience working in a clinical laboratory setting.
Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Patient Service Center which includes but is not limited to opening and closing the service center, registering patients, ordering patient tests, collecting, handling, processing, and transporting specimens. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: 1. Performs proper specimen collection [blood and non-blood], including patient preparation, labeling, handling, preservation or fixation, processing or preparation, transportation, and storage of specimens; complies with all standards for laboratory procedures. Demonstrates knowledge and ability to evaluate and select proper collection methods for age specific patients. 2. Completes specimen handling and processing including centrifuging all tubes and aliquoting. 3. Arranges for specimen transport using established procedure. 4. Collects, verifies, and processes patient registration data and test order/entry into hospital information system/laboratory information system and understanding of insurance plans. 5. Adheres to Compliance policies related to job duties to include presenting Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) of non-coverage prior to delivery of outpatient services. 6. Responsible for obtaining consent for treatment.
