The Peer Support Specialist acts as a representative and advocate for youth and their families receiving behavioral health treatment, focusing on supporting their emotional well-being using personal experience to instill hope. Responsibilities include maintaining communication among families, community stakeholders, Child Protective Services, and clinic staff, while also providing educational and training support for family members.
Applicants must be a biological parent, adoptive parent, or relative caregiver who has raised a child with a disability and received mental health services for that child, possessing at least a High School Diploma or GED. Candidates must also successfully complete required Department of Mental Health Certified Peer Specialist trainings and certification exams within the first 30 days of employment.
