The Surgical Technologist performs technical functions to assist in patient care delivery within the Operating Room or assigned hospital areas, primarily by supporting Registered Nurses, anesthesia staff, and surgeons. The main role involves performing the 'scrub' function during surgical procedures and ensuring all sterile supplies, instrumentation, and equipment are available.
Candidates must have a High School diploma or GED, along with graduation from an accredited surgical technology school or an Associate of Arts Degree in Surgical Technology, or over ten years of experience as a Surgical Technologist. Current CPR certification is required, and national certification as a Surgical Technologist is strongly preferred.
The Surgical Technologist (ST) performs technical functions to assist in the delivery of patient care within the Operating Room or other areas of the hospital as assigned. The ST provides assistance to other health care providers such as Registered Nurses, anesthesia staff, surgeons and other professionals. The primary role of the ST is to perform in the ‘scrub’ role during surgical procedures and by assuring availability of all sterile supplies, instrumentation, and equipment.
High School graduate or GED required. Graduation from an accredited school of surgical technology (civilian or military), Associate of Arts Degree in Surgical Technology from an accredited technical or liberal arts college or 10 plus years experience as a Surgical Technologist.
Licensure: not applicable
Current CPR certification. Certification as a Surgical Technologist under the Liaison Council on Certification for the Surgical Technologist by graduating from a CAAHEP and passing a national certification examination (CST) OR, certification under the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), or certification under the Armed Forces (military) Program strongly preferred.
