The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) provides physical therapy treatments as directed by the Physical Therapist and monitors patient responses to therapy interventions. They also assist with discharge planning and provide education to patients and caregivers.
Candidates must be graduates of an approved Physical Therapy Assistant program with a minimum of one year of post-graduation experience. A valid driver's license, current PTA license in Florida, and BLS or CPR certification are also required.
The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA)responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following: Provides physical therapy treatments as directed by the Physical Therapist and outlined in the patient’s plan of care. Implements physician orders according to the principles and practices of physical therapy, within scope of practice. Monitors patient response to therapy interventions and communicates changes in condition, progress toward goals, or concerns to the supervising Physical Therapist. Assists with discharge planning and communicates patient progress, goal attainment, or need for modification of the plan of care. Provides education to patients and caregivers regarding mobility, safety, self-care, use of adaptive equipment, and disease-related functional changes as directed by the Physical Therapist. Documents all patient care, treatments, education, and progress accurately and timely in the electronic medical record in accordance with hospice, regulatory, and payer requirements. Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and care coordination activities. Demonstrates culturally competent, population-specific care that respects diversity related to age, language, culture, religion, gender, and physical needs. Maintains patient safety by adhering to infection control practices, fall prevention strategies, hand hygiene guidelines, and patient identification standards. Utilizes effective verbal and written communication skills with patients, families, caregivers, physicians, and hospice team members. Maintains professional standards, including HIPAA compliance, ethical conduct, and confidentiality. Meets productivity standards, completes documentation on the date of service, and ensures charges accurately reflect services provided. Assists with orientation and training of new staff or students as assigned. Maintains required competencies, attends mandatory education, in-services, and staff meetings. Performs other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday: 8:00 am- 5:00 pm. Weekend Call Must have the ability to travel to patient residences using a personal vehicle. Skills & QualificationsEducation & Experience: Graduate of an approved Physical Therapy Assistant program. Minimum of one (1) year of experience post-graduation required. Two (2) years of experience in acute care, rehabilitation, home health, or hospice settings preferred. Skills & Abilities: Strong clinical and observational skills. Ability to provide compassionate, patient-centered care in end-of-life settings. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary hospice team. Ability to adapt to changing patient needs and emotional situations. Professional demeanor demonstrating integrity, compassion, accountability, respect, and excellence. Basic computer skills, including electronic medical record documentation.
Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation. Commitment to BBH’s core values: integrity, compassion, and accountability. Current Physical Therapy Assistant license in the State of Florida. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
