The specialist will evaluate the appropriateness and effectiveness of patient medications, monitor patient progress, and consult with healthcare providers to select optimal medication therapy. They will also participate in patient care rounds, counsel patients, serve as a preceptor, educate staff, participate in committees, and oversee medication history technicians.
Required qualifications include graduation from an ACPE accredited pharmacy school with a PharmD degree, along with either an ASHP accredited PGY-2 Residency, a PGY-1 residency plus 3 years of specialty clinical experience, or a minimum of 5 years of hospital experience in the specialty area. Candidates must be registered with the Maryland Board of Pharmacy.
