The Occupational Therapist evaluates patients referred to the Hand Clinic, developing and implementing rehabilitative treatment programs to restore optimal function and independence. Responsibilities also include fabricating splints, maintaining thorough documentation, and actively participating in multidisciplinary team efforts.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy and an active NYS License in Occupational Therapy. Preferred qualifications include experience in Hand Therapy and obtaining a Certification in Hand Therapy.
Performs a complete initial evaluation on receipt of referral. Develops and implements treatment plan, including appropriate short and long-term goals and methods to achieve identified goals. Involves patient, family, and staff in the implementation of the treatment program. Re-evaluates patient's functional status progressively, to ensure that treatment program goals are appropriate to patient's current needs; advances patient toward maximal performance and functional independence. Adjusts treatment plan and goals accordingly. Maintains complete documentation of patients' evaluations, treatment, progress, and discharge status. Sends required information to appropriate professionals. ctively participates in rehabilitation team efforts to meet patient needs, including, but not limited to, Hand center case rounds, counseling and teaching patients and their families, discussing changes in treatment programs with MD's, coordinating health care plans with other involved health professionals, e.g., PM&R staff, nurses, social workers, prosthetics, and others, and assists in discharge planning as appropriate. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components.
