The histotechnician prepares tissue specimens for Mohs micrographic surgery by embedding, cutting, and staining samples for microscopic analysis. They are also responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment and ensuring compliance with OSHA and CLIA regulatory standards.
Candidates must have completed a CAHEA-accredited histotechnology program. Additionally, they require at least 6 months of recent Mohs surgery histopathology experience or 1 year of general histology laboratory experience.
1. Assists Mohs surgeons with Mohs histotechnology procedures.
a. Checks each specimen for criteria for acceptability, assuring proper patient identification, specimen integrity, and appropriate paperwork. b. Records the receipt of specimens in the log and assigns identification number according to department protocol. c. Refers any problem specimen to the area of collection and informs the supervisor for follow-up action where necessary.
