The Peer Specialist provides support, education, and advocacy to individuals with behavioral health issues transitioning into the community. Key tasks include facilitating recovery processes, managing symptoms, and implementing person-centered interventions.
Candidates must self-identify as having a serious mental illness or substance abuse recovery experience. A high school diploma or GED and at least 2 years of experience in mental health recovery are required.
RHD Glassport is a program for people with behavioral health issues who are transitioning into the community. The program will provide supportive services to help enhance the residents lives, while maintaining stable mental health. The goal of the program is to facilitate and promote independence and improve quality of life.
The Peer Specialist performs a wide range of tasks to assist Persons In Recover (PIRs) in regaining control over their own recovery process. This includes but is not limited to the development of natural supports; development of social interactions in the community; and management of symptoms that challenge wellness in an individual.
