The technologist prepares and administers high-energy, short-acting radio-isotopes and sometimes contrast media to patients before diagnostic procedures. Responsibilities include operating PET and CT scanners, performing radiation safety and quality control, and ensuring radioactive material disposal adheres to NRC regulations.
Candidates must be graduates of an AMA accredited school for Nuclear Medicine Technology and Radiographic Technology, possessing three years of experience in Nuclear Medicine and one year specifically in PET CT. Required licensure includes CNMT, ARRT, LSRT, and BLS Certification.
The PET/CT Technologist prepares and administers high energy short acting radio-isotopes, and sometimes contrast media, supplied by manufacturers, to patients in preparation for diagnostic procedures. The technologist prepares and positions patients for scanning and operates the PET scanner, CT scanner, Dose calibrators, radiation detectors, and radiopharmaceutical tracking software. The technologist is responsible for performing radiation safety and quality control procedures, disposal of radioactive materials, and monitoring work area and patient rooms to ensure that the levels of radioactive materials are in accordance with NRC regulations. May be required to work in other modalities with appropriate licensure.
